VOV.VN - The central coastal city of Da Nang has set up mobile teams in the fight against the dengue fever epidemic with the number of cases continuing to rise due to a range of complicated developments.

The Tropical Medicine Department under the Da Nang General Hospital, announced that it has received a total of 70 cases of dengue fever each day.

During the first three weeks of July, the department also was forced to admit nearly 250 cases of dengue fever.

The six-month period saw up to 1,300 patients suffering from dengue fever hospitalised for treatment, a six-fold increase in comparison with the same period last year.

Doctor Truong Thi Hoa of the Tropical Medicine Department stated that the number of dengue fever patients with severe symptoms such as vomiting and a high fever has increased sharply in recent times.

Residents should remain vigilant with regard to the disease, especially amid hot weather conditions.

According to the Da Nang Centre for Disease Control, the city has recorded more than 3,200 cases of dengue fever as of the middle of July. This is triple the figure in comparison to last year’s corresponding period when no deaths were reported.

Despite the city launching a campaign to eradicate mosquito larvae, the number of cases of dengue fever has continued to increase amid complicated developments.

Nguyen Tam Lam of the Da Nang Centre for Disease Control said the centre has set up two mobile teams in a bid to combat the epidemic.

Each district will have its own mobile team which has been set up and given medical equipment along with a sufficient quantity of chemicals to eradicate mosquito larvae.
