Previously, on February 18, 2023, the Vietnam Railways Corporation worked with the People's Committee of Bac Giang province to organize the opening ceremony of international intermodal operation at Kep Railway station in Huong Son commune, Lang Giang district (Bac Giang).
In 2022, the Vietnam Railways Corporation will complete the upgrade, renovation and repair (phase 1) of the Kep Railway station cargo yard with an area of nearly 28,000 m2, ensuring sufficient conditions for international intermodal transport of goods by rail.
On January 19, 2023, the Ministry of Transport issued a decision allowing Kep Railway station to temporarily exploit international intermodal operations. The Vietnam Railways Corporation worked with the General Department of Customs and the People's Committee of Bac Giang province to complete relevant procedures and agree on implementation plans.
Given these infrastructure conditions, the Vietnam Railways Corporation has developed the implementation plan for phase 1 (2023-2024) of Kep Railway station (right after its official operation). Accordingly, establishing 1.5-2 customs operation teams per day to serve the Kep - Dong Dang (Lang Son) - Bang Tuong (China) route; implementing the establishment, dissolution, and transit of North-South domestic route one team per day.
The average loading and unloading capacity is expected to be 80-100 wagons/container per day, contributing to reducing congestion for Yen Vien and Dong Dang stations in international intermodal transport along the Hanoi - Lang Son railway to bring good to China. The major commodities are electronic goods, industrial goods, construction materials, industrial wood, raw ore.
Phase 2 from 2025 will build a bonded warehouse to serve the import and export activities of enterprises in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces. The yard specializes in receiving refrigerated containers from the South to gather, carry out customs procedures and arrange transportation by rail for export to China. The capacity of phase 2 is expected to increase by 2-2.5 teams per day.
