The new office will play the role of the main headquarters for the La Gan offshore wind venture. It will mainly operate as the company’s administrative workplace and will be used to welcome representatives of local authorities, as well as other stakeholders interested in the project.

Stuart Livesey, CEO of the La Gan Wind Power Development Corporation and country director of Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) in Vietnam, said, “The office in Tuy Phong will form the foundations of the project and presence in the local area, allowing us more opportunities to liaise directly with key local officials, suppliers, and local community groups. It also allows us to directly invest in the local area and lay the first building block as the La Gan project progresses.”

He said that Binh Thuan province has a wealth of skills and resources to support the La Gan, thus the project will focus on utilising these and maximising local content where possible. “The priority is to coexist and give back to the local community, while also providing Vietnam with an alternative source of green energy to benefit ours and our future generation in the battle against climate change,” he added.

The La Gan offshore wind project in Binh Thuan is one of the first large-scale offshore wind farm ventures in the country, and is being developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and managed by offshore wind experts COP. The project is expected to power more than seven million households per year and help the country avoid the use of 130 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over its lifetime.

According to a detailed economic impact study performed by international experts BVG Associates, the project is projected to provide several benefits, including the creation of over 45,000 full-time equivalent jobs in Vietnam (defined as one full-time role for a year) and a contribution of over $4.4 billion to the Vietnamese economy over the project’s lifetime.

La Gan Wind Power Development Corporation was established in 2020 by the original members of the joint venture to initiate the development plan for the La Gan offshore wind power project.
