As many as 63 medical workers of the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital have been placed in quarantined after having contact with a coronavirus patient, according to the hospital management.

The 47-year-old man took his wife to the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital for regular medical check-ups on April 4. He was allowed to come in after filling out the health declaration form and having body temperature checked. 

Two days later he was diagnosed with the SARS-VoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-2 disease.  

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, vice director of the hospital, confirmed that a total of 63 medical workers had direct and indirect contact with the patient. 

Relevant agencies moved to disinfect the hospital and quarantine the suspected cases.  

Epidemiologists took their samples for testing, Ha said, adding that if they all test negative for the virus, 17 doctors and nurses having direct contact with the patient will still stay in the quarantine area, and the remaining 46 others will self-isolate at home. 

Since the coronavirus outbreak started, the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital has tightened control at entrance gates. All visitors are required to fill out health declaration forms, have body temperature checked and use hand sanitizers before entering the premise. 

The hospital plans to use its second facility capable of accommodating 150 people in Ha Ba Trung district to receive high-risk patients or suspected cases in an attempt to avoid cross transmission.
