The event was organized by Hoa Lac Stem Cell Joint Stock Company (HSC), a pioneer in the field of reproductive biotechnology and stem cell technology in Vietnam. This event marks a significant milestone for HSC in its mission to promote the production and application of advanced stem cell technology to support research and treatment in Vietnam.
HOSTEP, spanning nearly 10,000 square meters, will operate as an R&D platform designed to promote stem cell technology advancements within Vietnam. The project meets cGMP standards (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and addresses the growing need for safe, effective stem cell therapies in Vietnam. Additionally, it supports the transfer and adoption of emerging technologies within the country.
HOSTEP as a leading regional research and development center with the following key functions:
A Cryobank System for tissue and stem cell preservation, compliant with GMP/cGMP standards.
A Research and Technology Transfer System to facilitate innovation in stem cell differentiation and personalized therapies.
A Stem Cell Quality Control and Standardization System supporting the development of safe cell therapies for clinical use.
A Consulting and Training System for knowledge dissemination and workforce development in stem cell science.
HOSTEP’s construction and operational timeline are divided into two phases. Phase 1, from mid-2024 to the end of 2025, will focus on building advanced facilities and infrastructure. Phase 2 will continue from 2026 to mid-2027, ultimately establishing
HOSTEP is guided by a team of leading experts in biomedicine and stem cell technology, including:
Prof. Dr. Andras Dinnyes, Director of BioTalentum Ltd., Hungary, specializing in neural stem cells.
Dr. Bach Quoc Khanh, former Director of Vietnam’s National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
Dr. Tuan Huy Nguyen, Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer of GoLiver, France.
Prof. Dr. Gerald Schatten, Director of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
These experts bring vast experience and have established partnerships with international research institutions and medical centers, reinforcing HOSTEP’s potential as a research hub.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Bui Xuan Nguyen, Chairman of HSC, shared that HOSTEP embodies the dedication of the research team and the collaboration between Vietnamese and international partners committed to making stem cell technology a cornerstone of Vietnam’s modern medical system.
Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health and Chairman of the National Medical Council, highlighted the importance of HOSTEP in developing a high-tech medical infrastructure for Vietnam. "With government support and effective investment, HSC is poised to become a leader in stem cell technology in Vietnam and the region,” Dr. Thuan affirmed.
As a cGMP consultant for the project, Mr. Dao Xuan Huong, Chairman and CEO of GMPc Vietnam JSC, added, “In an era of rapid scientific progress, HOSTEP stands as a pioneering facility for stem cell technology in Vietnam, upholding the highest cGMP standards.”
