The construction of Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Expressway has been delayed due to oil shortage

According to the contractors, in September this year, the Ministry of Transport called for the implementation of four construction projects: Mai Son-National Highway 45, Cam Lo-La Son, Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet, and Dau Giay - Phan Thiet. Accordingly, the construction of Dau Giay – Phan Thiet was asked to be completed at the end of 2022.

Nguyen Hoang Hai, managing director of the XL03 contraction package developed by Vinaconex group, said that this contractor package needs 5,000 litres of oil per day to operate 300 pieces of machinery and equipment.

“However, at present, the company can gather between 600 and 1,000 litres of oil per day. At present, we are accelerating the construction work, but the oil and petroleum shortage is a barrier to our effort,” Hai said.

A similar situation occurred with the XL02 contraction package developed by Phuong Thanh Transport Construction and Investment JSC. Tran Viet Lai, deputy director of this contractor package, said that they needed approximately 20,000 litres of oil per day, 13,000 litres of which are served for drills, rock diggers, excavators, and rock transporters.

“We are proactive in looking for alternative oil and petroleum sources with higher selling prices of between VND3,000-5,000 per litre, but the supply is still lower than our demand. We are concerned that if this situation is prolonged, the construction process will not meet the committed deadline,” Lai said.

The expressway is part of the North-South Expressway. With a length of 98 kilometres, the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway project is one of eight expressways recently approved by the prime minister to change from build-operate-transfer to public investment.

Four lanes will be built during the first phase, requiring the total investment of roughly VND14 trillion ($608.69 million).
