Besides increasing revenue collection, post-clearance audits also contribute to strengthening the prevention and combat of smuggling and trade fraud, especially violations of origin of goods.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in July, the sector conducted 177 cases of post-clearance audits, of which 33 cases were on-site audits and 144 cases were conducted at the headquarters of the customs authority.
The total amount of tax assessment and monetary penalties is VND 13.51 billion, which has collected VND 56.83 billion into the State budget.
Accumulated to July 15, the whole sector performed 1,062 cases of post-clearance audit, of which 264 cases are on-site audits and 798 are conducted at the headquarters of the customs authority. The total amount of tax assessment and monetary penalties is VND 500.2 billion, which has actually collected nearly VND 455 billion into the State budget.
Notably, only Post Clearance Audit Department has collected and paid more than VND 403 billion to the State budget, accounting for 88.6% of revenue collection of the force.
As well as conducting direct inspections, the Post Clearance Audit Department also focuses on expanding and perfecting the orientation plan on conducting post clearance audits following special topics, developing an orientation plan to combat origin fraud and illegal transshipment of exported goods.
