Orbbec last month held a groundbreaking ceremony for its RVMC factory at Thuan Thanh I Industrial Park in Bac Ninh, marking a new step in the company's strategy to expand its overseas manufacturing capabilities.

According to the company's plan, the new facility is expected to begin operations in 2027. Once operational, it will primarily manufacture 3D vision sensors and intelligent hardware products for markets outside China.

In its project announcement, Orbbec did not disclose the total investment value, production capacity, expected workforce size, or the percentage of components to be sourced from Vietnamese suppliers.

According to Vietnam's national business registration portal, RVMC Vietnam Co., Ltd. was established on March 2, 2026, with its registered address at Lot CN1-2, Thuan Thanh I Industrial Park, Tram Lo ward. The company's legal representative is a Chinese national serving as its director.

The company has a charter capital of VND104.4 billion ($4 million). Its owner is Robot Vision Manufacturing Company Pte. Ltd., headquartered in Singapore.

Manufacturing the "eyes" of robots

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Shenzhen, Orbbec operates in the fields of robotic vision and AI vision. The company has been listed on the STAR Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange since July 2022.

Orbbec's products are often described as the "eyes" of robots, enabling machines to measure distances, perceive depth, map environments, recognize objects, and avoid obstacles.

Its technology portfolio includes structured light, stereo vision, Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensing, and LiDAR technologies. These solutions are widely used in robotics, 3D scanning, biometric identification, logistics, healthcare, and retail.

According to Orbbec, the company currently serves more than 3,000 customers and developers across nearly 100 countries and regions worldwide. It said that its robotic vision business holds more than 70% market share in China's service robot market and South Korea's mobile robot market.

Orbbec's investment in Vietnam comes as 3D vision technology is becoming an increasingly critical component of robots and AI systems operating in the physical world.

In a report published in May 2025, Morgan Stanley estimated that the global humanoid robot market could exceed $5 trillion by 2050, including revenues from supply chains, maintenance, repair, and support services.

The organization forecast that more than 1 billion humanoid robots could be deployed by 2050, with about 90% serving industrial and commercial purposes.

Despite its enormous long-term potential, the humanoid robotics industry remains in an early stage of development. Morgan Stanley believed that adoption may remain relatively slow until the mid-2030s before accelerating as technology advances, costs decline, and legal and social acceptance increases.

Building a China-Vietnam manufacturing network

Before launching the Bac Ninh project, Orbbec had already brought an intelligent manufacturing facility in China into operation in late 2024 and is continuing to expand its capacity.

According to the company, the Chinese factory is capable of producing millions of sensors annually. It also provides contract manufacturing services for companies developing rehabilitation robots, robotic lawn mowers, humanoid robots, warehouse robots, cleaning robots, and other smart devices.

Orbbec considers its Vietnam facility a key manufacturing hub within its global network, helping improve delivery capabilities, support on-the-spot production, and meet growing demand from international customers.

The company stated that coordination between its Chinese and Vietnamese production bases will help establish a more scalable and resilient global manufacturing system.

According to Brent Chan, CFO of Orbbec, the RVMC project represents not only the construction of a new facility but also an important step toward strengthening the company's global manufacturing and delivery network.

He said that Orbbec will continue expanding its manufacturing footprint across multiple locations to enhance supply chain resilience and better serve customers worldwide.

By choosing Bac Ninh, Orbbec gains access to the province's well-established electronics manufacturing ecosystem, including assembly companies, component suppliers, logistics providers, and supporting industries that serve global supply chains, he added.
