With the nation’s central region enduring plenty of losses and severe damage from rising flooding caused by heavy rainfall, conditions are expected to worsen in the coming days with more rain set to fall until October 14.

In the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, rising floodwater sees the Bo river 0.04 metres higher in comparison to the peak of the region’s historic flood in 1999. Indeed, rescuing local people in low-lying areas proves to be difficult.

By midday on October 10 flooding leaves two people killed with a further six injured. In addition, a total of 25,000 houses situated in low-lying areas have been left submerged in Thua Thien-Hue province, with local police forces providing food assistance for people in flood-hit areas.

Local people face difficulty in travelling due to many of the province’s key streets being flooded.

Heavy rain on October 9 results in the water level of the Vu Gia river rising, negatively effecting homes in Dai Loc district in the central province of Quang Nam. A local man is forced to use a boat to travel around residential areas.

Houses in Dai Dong commune of Dai Loc district in Quang Nam province are left in deep under water on October 10.

Ha Xuan Minh, chairman of the administration of Dai Hung commune in Dai Loc district, notes that approximately 700 houses in the commune have been left submerged in floodwater.

Residents of Dai Loc district are forced to utilise boats as a means of transport due to the local streets being turned into rivers.

A prolonged downpour causes flooding throughout the ancient city of Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam.

With heavy rain expected to continue until October 14, thousands of local people in the central region have been evacuated to safe areas in an effort to help reduce loss in these historic floods.

In the central province of Quang Tri, the water level in many rivers is still rising at an alarming rate. A policeman helps carry a man to safety from a flooded area.

Security force make use of small boats in order to go inside residential areas and rescue local people, whilst also evacuating them to safe areas.

Roughly 12,600 houses in Quang Binh province have been left submerged, with the majority of them being in Minh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Le Thuy communes. Many residents of Tan Hoa commune in Minh Hoa district shelter in floating houses as they wait for the water to recede.
