Ca Mau province posted significant economic growth in the first nine months of the year, with a GRDP growth rate of 6.45% year-on-year, according to the provincial Statistic Office.
Of which, the industry-construction sector rose 7.43%; the services sector 8.4% and the agro-forestry and fisheries sector 3.3%.
Total retail sales of consumer goods and services surged 19.9% and export revenue grew 9%. The province’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased 5.1%.
Ca Mau targets an economic growth of 7% for the whole year, higher than the national target set by the National Assembly.
As of September 27, the province disbursed over VND2.36 trillion ($94 million), equal to 45.3% of the yearly target, much lower than expectation.
Of which, 6 investors disbursed funds that didn’t meet the progress according to Action Program No. 01 but disbursed funds above the province's average (54.3%), 8 investors disbursed funds below the province's average and 1 investor has not disbursed funds.
At the conference to review the direction and management of the socio-economic situation in the first 9 months of 2024, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province Lam Van Bi acknowledged that the progress of disbursement of public investment capital from now until the end of the year is still very large, and solutions are needed to create a breakthrough.
"Over the past years, up to this point, the province's disbursement progress has always been much higher than the national average, but this year it is lower than the national and regional average" said the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province.
In addition, Mr. Lam Van Bi said that it is necessary to improve the investment and business environment to improve the provincial competitiveness index (PCI); combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) as well as implement Directive 17 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and Directive 10 of the Provincial People's Committee are contents that departments, branches and local authorities must pay special attention to.
Regarding the progress of public investment disbursement, Mr. Doan Quoc Khoi, Director of the Department of Finance of Ca Mau province, said that the situation of slow settlement of works and projects in the past has not changed, there are group B works with very large capital but have not yet been settled, leaving many huge consequences from the budget to land.
To achieve the target, Director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Duc Thanh has proposed relevant departments and agencies to strive to fulfill assigned tasks, particularly speeding up disbursement of public investment capital.
At the same time, we must be determined to speed up the disbursement of public investment capital. With the remaining capital, from now until the end of the year, we must disburse an average of nearly 1,000 billion VND per month, which is 3 times higher than the average from the beginning of the year until now.
In addition, regarding the work of combating IUU fishing, Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that of approximately 530 ships in the "3 no" group, localities have handled 232 ships, the remaining have been approached to propagate and guide people.
At the same time, for vehicles that do not meet the conditions, they will resolutely not be allowed to go to sea. In particular, ships in the high-risk group have been closely monitored, determined from now until the end of the year not to violate foreign waters.
