With the Lunar New Year (Tet) six days away, plenty of shops on Hai Thuong Lan Ong street in Ho Chi Minh City have been covered in red as a diverse range of decorations attracts new consumers.

Decorative items celebrating the coming lunar Year of the Buffalo are among the most popular items on sale this year.

Walking along the street, pedestrians can see plenty of peach and apricot flowers made of cloth and plastic being used for decoration.

At present the street is bustling ahead of the Lunar New Year.

A range of colourful stickers sending wishes of luck and prosperity ahead of the Lunar New Year can be seen throughout the area.

This year has seen Vietnamese handcraft products dominate the Tet decoration market. Indeed, traditional Vietnamese decorations such as banh chung are among the most sought-after items for the largest festival of the year.

Envelopes are used to give children lucky money as an indispensable part of each Tet holiday. A package containing 10 envelopes only costs between VND10,000 to VND15,000 or just half a US dollar.

Local visitors don face masks when shopping on Hai Thuong Lan Ong street as part of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention measures.
