In five years (from February 2016 to June 2020), the Border Defence force closed 544 specialised cases, handled 44,270 cases with 78,227 subjects, rescuing 471 victims. This was a result released by the High Command of Border Defence force at the conference reviewing the implementation of the Criminal Prevention and Control Programme up to 2020 of the Border Defence forces.

The Border Defence force seized 10.73 tonnes of all kinds of narcotics, 343 guns, 5,274 bullets, 3,401 tonnes of explosives, more than VND 3 billion in cash and 40 yuan in cash (Chinese money). The total value of temporarily seized goods handled was more than VND 1,500 billion.

According to a report at the conference, from 2016 until now, transportation of synthetic drugs from China to Vietnam has decreased, but the transportation of synthetic drugs from abroad into Vietnam to China has increased. The subjects have opened many new transportation routes to deliver drugs from the "Golden Triangle" through Laos and Cambodia into the provinces of Central, Highlands and Southwest.

Besides that, smuggling and illegal transport of goods cross-border has been limited and reduced, but there was a risk of complex developments.

The situation of smugglers fighting back law enforcement officers has increased in some southwestern provinces. Human trafficking criminals have developed complicatedly on the Vietnam-China border and in some central and southern provinces. Recently, the unit discovered cases of newborn baby trafficking and bringing pregnant women to China to give birth and then selling babies.

To prevent and stop the above acts, in the future, the High Command of Border Defence force will conduct patrols and strict control of borderlines and border gates to prevent the illegal opening of roads, firmly grasping the situation and especially the activities of criminals from remote, from outside the border and at sea. Resolutely not allow the establishment of hot spots, complex criminals and social evils in the border areas. Strengthening coordination with local and foreign forces to promote synergy in crime prevention.

Firmly grasp, forecast and assess criminal activities, to prevent surprise factors. In-depth implementation of basic operational aspects, strict management of geographical areas, subjects, research and deployment of tactics, new ways of fighting, using and exploiting effective features of technology in fighting crime. Proactively building and deploying plans to use the force of patrolling, ambushing and catching criminals on key routes and areas.

At the same time, the High Command of the Border Defence force would also implement effectively the instructions, resolutions and action plans of higher-level authorities on prevention of crimes, attaching the task of crime prevention to the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic.
