The northern province of Bac Giang exported an initial tonne of fresh Vietnamese lychees to Japan by air on June 19, creating opportunities to further expand export markets and meeting the expectations of growers.

This year, Luc Ngan district in Bac Giang province is home to 103 hectares specifically dedicated to being lychee cultivation areas, with all products being grown under the Global GAP and Viet GAP standards while the output is expected to reach approximately 600 tonnes during this year's harvest season. 

In addition, a total of 19 further growing area codes have been registered for exports to the Japanese market. 

The testing parameters conducted by relevant agencies, the Plant Protection Department, and local firms indicate that the residue of plant protection chemicals and the heavy metal content meet the necessary standards to ship to the Japanese market, said Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the Bac Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. 

The first shipment of the initial tonne of lychee items will arrive in Japan by air on June 19, while an additional five tonnes of lychee are set to be exported by sea on June 20, according to information released by local businesses. 

Moreover, insiders believe that approximately 100 tonnes of fresh lychee will be successfully exported to the Japanese market throughout the year. 

According to the Plant Protection Department, roughly 31,000 tonnes of Vietnamese lychees have been exported to China this year, with 100 tonnes being exported to Singapore, 20 tonnes being shipped to the United States, and 20 tonnes going to the Australian market.
