She was confirmed to die of septic shock, pneumonia caused by Covid-19 on lung cancer.

A resident in Ung Hoa District of Hanoi, she was diagnosed with lung cancer last October. She had gone through an operation to remove her left lung and five times of chemotherapy.

As she was receiving one of such therapy at the city's K Hospital, which specializes in cancer treatment on May 14, she got infected with the new coronavirus.

Her conditions developed worse and she was put on a ventilator on May 25.

She died on Friday and became the 58th Covid-19 in Vietnam as well as the 23rd fatality so far in the nation's fourth wave, which started late April.

On Friday, two women with cancer were also announced Covid-19 deaths. Both had contracted the virus while staying at the K Hospital, which was put under lockdown from May 7 to 23 for becoming a Covid-19 hotspot itself.

So far in this wave, Vietnam has recorded 6,849 infections in 39 of its 63 cities and provinces.

During the second wave in July and August last year, the country recorded 35 deaths.
