The discussions took place in a friendly, open, and substantive atmosphere, focusing on specific measures to enhance Vietnam-Myanmar relations, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, agriculture, and citizen protection.

Boosting investment and facilitating business

During the meetings, Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc affirmed that Vietnam values its traditional friendship with Myanmar and aims to further promote bilateral relations in a more substantive and effective manner during his tenure. The Ambassador appreciated the positive outcomes achieved by Myanmar's new government in stabilizing, recovering, and developing the economy, promoting domestic production, attracting investment, and improving the living standards of its people. He confirmed Vietnam's readiness to share experiences and strengthen cooperation based on the strengths, needs, and interests of both sides.

The Ambassador emphasized that economic, trade, and investment cooperation is a crucial pillar of the two countries' relations. Many Vietnamese enterprises continue to maintain operations and commit to long-term engagement with the Myanmar market. The Ambassador requested that Myanmar continue to facilitate Vietnamese businesses by assisting in resolving difficulties related to investment procedures, import licenses, payments, importation of machinery and raw materials for production, electricity, fuel, and logistics. He also urged timely provision of information on policy changes and areas and projects that Myanmar prioritizes for investment attraction.

In the meeting with Minister of National Planning, Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Kyaw Hoe, both sides discussed further strengthening Vietnam-Myanmar economic cooperation, ongoing investment areas, and measures to boost investment between the two countries.

They also talked about continuing negotiations and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on investment promotion and protection, thereby completing the framework and facilitating investment activities for businesses from both countries.

Expanding trade in a bilateral, complementary manner

In discussions with Minister of Commerce U Tun Ohn, the Ambassador proposed that both sides continue to promote trade in a bilateral, balanced, and complementary manner, gradually restoring and enhancing bilateral trade turnover.

Vietnam has a demand for importing Myanmar's key export products such as beans, corn, animal feed ingredients, and some agricultural products. At the same time, Vietnam can supply machinery, equipment, seeds, materials, and products that meet Myanmar's production and consumption needs.

The Ambassador requested that Myanmar address issues related to import licenses for Vietnamese businesses. Both sides should soon resume bilateral trade subcommittee meetings, enhance trade promotion, directly connect businesses, and identify potential product groups to focus on promoting.

Myanmar highly appreciated Vietnam's development capacity and experience, expressing readiness to facilitate Vietnamese businesses operating in Myanmar, support import procedures, and welcome Vietnamese enterprises to continue exploring investment and business opportunities in Myanmar.

Deepening agricultural cooperation

Agriculture is identified as one of the areas with significant potential, based on the complementarity between Myanmar's land, raw materials, and agricultural production potential and Vietnam's strengths in seeds, cultivation techniques, mechanization, livestock, aquaculture, post-harvest processing, and value chain organization.

The Ambassador praised recent cooperation progress between the Myanmar Rice Federation, Myanmar Coffee Association, and Myanmar Corn Association with Vietnamese partners. He suggested focusing on promoting cooperation in rice, coffee, and corn seeds, facilitating trials and selection of suitable varieties, transferring technology, and gradually expanding cooperation across the entire value chain.

Both sides also discussed seed technology and advanced agricultural technology, biosafety, disease prevention and control for fish and shrimp, investment in animal feed production and livestock development, agricultural research, technology transfer, and human resource development.

Myanmar proposed that both sides explore enhancing cooperation in rice, corn, coffee, cashew, and aquaculture production. They also discussed considering a new bilateral agricultural cooperation MOU to replace the expired document, creating a framework to promote cooperation in the new phase.

Enhancing cooperation in immigration, repatriation, and combating transnational crime

During the meeting with Minister of Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, the Ambassador thanked the Myanmar government and authorities for their cooperation and humanitarian support in handling and repatriating Vietnamese citizens who violated immigration laws. He proposed that both sides continue to strengthen coordination in citizen protection, repatriation, and combating online fraud, human trafficking, and transnational crimes.

The Ambassador requested that Myanmar consider the circumstances of Vietnamese citizens who entered illegally but were actually victims of fraud and human trafficking rings. He also called for increased sharing of information, experience and public awareness materials aimed at warning and early prevention efforts.

Myanmar affirmed its continued facilitation for Vietnamese citizens to enter and reside legally, agreeing to maintain coordination on immigration and citizen repatriation issues. They emphasized the need to enhance propaganda to ensure Vietnamese citizens enter Myanmar in accordance with the law, avoiding illegal paths, especially being lured into illegal entry via land borders, which poses a risk of falling into online fraud centers.

Towards concrete cooperation outcomes

Through the meetings, Myanmar's ministers highly appreciated the traditional friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar, as well as Vietnam's development achievements, especially in the economy and agriculture. They noted that the two countries have many complementary strengths and ample room for expanding cooperation. Myanmar expressed readiness to facilitate Vietnamese businesses and coordinate the implementation of specific programs and projects in areas of mutual interest.

The meetings contributed to strengthening the working relationship between the Embassy and Myanmar's ministries and sectors, creating a foundation to transform Vietnam-Myanmar cooperation potential into practical programs and outcomes in the near future.
