As many as 103 outstanding press works were honoured at a National Press Awards ceremony held in Hanoi on June 21 which was attended by many senior Vietnamese officials and journalists from across the country.

Awarded press works this year address big burning issues of the society
They were selected from more than 1,600 submissions of all media genres by journalists from across the country. Among the 140 submission qualifying for the final round, the jury council selected nine top prizes, 21 B prizes, 41 C prizes, and 32 consolation prizes.
At the event, journalist Thuan Huu, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, noted this year’s awarded works addressed many big burning issues of the society with increased quality. Radio and television broadcasts showed more interaction with the public, while online newspapers exploited internet strengths in their works. In addition, the quality of local newspapers was increasingly improved.

Addressing the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated the awards winners, and said the press has made a substantial contribution to building the Party and State, swiftly and objectively responded to the country’s important developments, and better performed the function of overseeing, social criticism and fighting corruption and wastefulness. In addition, he said the press has also contributed to elevating the country's position and image globally.
He singled out the press for its considerable contribution to the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, saying the press has reflected policies of the Party and the State and actions of the Government to the public in a timely and effective way, helping generate public consensus in this combat.
Sharing difficulties media agencies have encountered due to the COVID-19, the Government leader affirmed the government creates the best possible conditions for the press to overcome the current challenging period.
