Unit information

Established in 1992, VCCI Mekong Delta Branch currently has 1,100 direct member enterprises and 1,600 affiliated members through associations; the area in charge is the Mekong Delta with a total of 13 provinces and cities.

Over the 30 years of companionship, VCCI Mekong Delta Branch has made many important contributions to the development of enterprises and entrepreneurs in Can Tho City in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general; recognized and highly appreciated by the business community.

Imprints in regional connectivity and local economic development

Affirming the role and position of VCCI in the Mekong Delta with local authorities and enterprises in the region, VCCI Mekong Delta Branch has developed and published the 2020 Mekong Delta Annual Economic Report with the theme "Improving capacity for sustainable development"; the 2022 Mekong Delta Annual Economic Report with the theme "Integrated planning and economic transformation model" (published in 2022 in Can Tho). This is the first and only economic research report on an economic region in the country.

After being published, the report was used by the Central Economic Committee and the Office of the National Assembly for National Assembly deputies as a reference document in questioning and policy research. In addition, leaders of ministries, branches, and localities all refer to it when conducting research and developing local plans.

Promoting competitiveness

Immediately after VCCI implemented the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), VCCI Mekong Delta Branch  approached and implemented the general PCI assessment activity for the Mekong Delta region as well as for each locality. After 16 years of PCI assessment, VCCI Mekong Delta Branch organized over 50 provincial-level seminars and 16 regional-level seminars to analyze, evaluate and recommend localities to improve their competitiveness. PCI results in recent times have seen many provinces/cities in the Mekong Delta in the Top 10.

In addition, in order to help local leaders in the Mekong Delta improve the effectiveness of management and implementation at the department, branch, and district levels; since 2020, VCCI Mekong Delta Branch has coordinated with Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau provinces to implement the Department, Branch, and District Competitiveness Index (DDCI). For example, in Hau Giang province, this is the third year that this locality has been consulted by VCCI Mekong Delta Branch. The report results have received consensus from the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, departments, branches, districts, and towns and will continue to be implemented for 5 consecutive years (2021 - 2026). As for Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces, they also plan to invite VCCI Mekong Delta Branch to consult for a period of 2-3 years.

Bridge for trade and investment promotion

The initiative to establish the Mekong Delta Promotion Centers Club (Mekong PC) chaired by VCCI Mekong Delta Branch has gathered the Promotion Centers of the Mekong Delta to participate in and successfully organize regional trade and investment promotion activities.

After more than 10 years of establishment, Mekong PC has organized regional-scale promotion forums. In particular, the Vietnam - Japan Cultural Exchange Program, organized by VCCI Mekong Delta Branch in coordination with Mekong PC from 2016-2019, created an important turning point, contributing to raising the Vietnam - Japan trade cooperation relationship to a new level.

Lighting the fire of entrepreneurship in the Mekong Delta region

Since 2018, VCCI Mekong Delta Branch has initiated and operated the Mekong Delta Startup Network (MSN) - the first and only regional startup network in the country.

MSN receives support and participation from 13/13 provinces/cities in the Mekong Delta region. MSN members are focal agencies in 13 provinces/cities, assigned by the Provincial People's Committee the function of supporting and promoting startups in the province.
