On September 7, 2024, Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi) made landfall in our country, causing severe damage to people and property in many provinces and cities in the northern region.

This is considered a historic storm, with intensity and destructive power surpassing other typhoons that have hit Vietnam. The business community and residents in many areas are facing significant difficulties and losses due to the devastation caused by the natural disaster. The damage to businesses alone may amount to several trillion dong, with many factories being destroyed by rain, storms, and floods, and production activities being severely disrupted.

To quickly stabilize the lives of the people and restore business activities in the areas affected by Typhoon No. 3, and in response to the call from General Secretary and President To Lam, leveraging the strong "national solidarity and mutual support" spirit, along with the beauty of Vietnamese business culture and ethics, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) respectfully requests and calls on businesses and business associations across the country to join forces in supporting the people and businesses in the affected areas to overcome the aftermath of the disaster.

Accordingly, the support for the people can be carried out by businesses or business associations either directly or through the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Red Cross Society, or other relevant central and local organizations, depending on the conditions and practical capabilities of the businesses, but it needs to be timely and swift.

In addition, the sharing and support for businesses affected by the natural disaster can be carried out through assistance with repairing and restoring factories and equipment, prioritizing orders, providing support for payment conditions and pricing, assisting with the supply of materials and raw materials, purchasing products, and so on.

Simultaneously, business associations in the regions directly affected by the storm and floods should promote solidarity, mutual support, and the spirit of “a helping hand to those in need,” organize visits, and offer encouragement to businesses that have suffered from the disaster.

Conduct a preliminary assessment of the damage to businesses (including the total value of damage in the local area, individual units, significant damages, summarizing difficulties, obstacles, and proposals for supporting the recovery of business operations) to report to local authorities and send it to VCCI by September 18, 2024.

VCCI will compile the information to report and recommend to the government and the Prime Minister to direct and issue support solutions and resolve difficulties for businesses.

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls on entrepreneurs and businesses nationwide to strengthen solidarity and, with the determination, resilience, and spirit of Vietnamese entrepreneurs, overcome all difficulties and challenges to quickly restore the production and business activities of enterprises affected by the storm and floods, and continue contributing to the country’s economic and social development.

To coordinate actions, VCCI also requests business associations to share this information with their member businesses and to organize and guide businesses in participating in the recovery efforts from Typhoon No. 3.
