VBF 2024: Business community commits to partnering with the Government to promote green growth.

Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI, Vice Chairman of VBF, affirmed that businesses support and are ready to collaborate with the Government in realizing growth objectives, including green growth.

On the morning of March 19th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the annual Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) under the theme "FDI enterprises pioneering in implementing green growth strategy"

Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF), emphasized that amidst numerous difficulties and challenges posed by unpredictable global developments, under the leadership of the Party, the flexible and resolute governance of the Government, and the support from authorities at all levels, the business community in Vietnam has persevered, proactively overcome all challenges, and continued to develop, making significant contributions to the country's economic achievements in 2023.

Accordingly, Vietnam continues to maintain stable macroeconomic conditions, control inflation, and ensure major economic balances. Especially, there has been an improvement in the quality of transportation infrastructure. "For example, from 2022 to now, Vietnam has put into operation an additional 730km of expressways, increasing the total length of expressways nationwide to nearly 1900km. Currently, the Government is allocating significant resources to invest in expressways. According to the plan, by 2025, Vietnam will have 3000 km, and by 2030, there will be 5000km of expressways," shared Mr. Pham Tan Cong.

With a relatively positive GDP growth rate of 5.05%, the Chairman of VCCI stated that the GDP scale in 2023 reached 450 billion USD, ranking 34th in the world. It is expected that in 2024, Vietnam will join the group of developed countries with high average incomes.

Another significant milestone for Vietnam in foreign affairs is elevating relations with the United States, Japan, Australia, while also deepening ties with China... "These are all leading world powers, and Vietnam continues to affirm itself as an attractive and secure destination for international investors," affirmed the Chairman of VCCI.

Regarding foreign investment, the registered capital in 2023 reached a record high of over 36 billion USD, an increase of over 32% compared to 2022. The realized FDI capital reached nearly 23.2 billion USD, the highest ever. The FDI business community continues to grow strong and make significant contributions to Vietnam's economy.

Regarding domestic investment, the capital invested by non-state enterprises reached nearly 2 quadrillion dong in 2023, an increase of 2.7% compared to 2022. The total number of newly established and re-entered enterprises was 218 thousand in 2023, the highest ever.

Mr. Pham Tan Cong affirmed that in the context of common difficulties, the above-mentioned achievements are highly significant and a source of pride for Vietnam. On this occasion, the Chairman of VCCI thanked the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Planning and Investment for their frequent attention, meetings to address difficulties, and creating favorable conditions for the development of the business community.

2024 has been identified by the Government as a year of acceleration and breakthrough to successfully implement the socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025. In Resolution 01/2024, the Government has identified this year's theme as "discipline, proactive and timely action, acceleration of creativity, sustainable effectiveness" and has set forth 6 key guiding viewpoints along with 12 important tasks, including vigorously promoting the green growth strategy.

In 2024, the Government has identified as a year of acceleration and breakthrough to successfully implement the socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025.

"The theme of VBF this year, focusing on FDI enterprises pioneer in implementing the green growth strategy, is one of the specific actions of the business community in Vietnam, demonstrating their support and readiness to collaborate with the Government in realizing the growth objectives for 2024 and the subsequent years," affirmed the Chairman of VCCI.

At the same time, it was noted that at COP26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made important commitments regarding Vietnam's target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, demonstrating Vietnam Government's significant political commitment and determination in economic transformation, contributing to addressing global challenges of climate change. VBF provides an opportunity for both FDI and domestic business communities to propose practical solutions towards achieving this green growth objective.

Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI, Vice Chairman of VBF, affirms that businesses support and are ready to collaborate with the Government to realize growth objectives, including green growth.

Sharing the same viewpoint, Mr. Nitin Kapoor, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) Alliance, and President & CEO of AstraZeneca Vietnam, emphasized that since the pandemic, businesses have been accelerating, and Vietnam is recognized as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world today.

"The theme of green growth is about ensuring the 'health' of the planet, the happiness of the community, while building sustainable businesses," Mr. Nitin Kapoor emphasized. He also noted that we are in an incredible competitive environment marked by trade, geographical divisions, and geopolitical tensions.

To move forward, it requires a robust legal system with strong, reliable, and sustainable policies, good infrastructure, and, of course, a skilled workforce. All are essential for smooth operation and continuous investment attraction in Vietnam.

"Our goal is very simple, yet it requires courage. We want to develop our business activities towards making the world a better place, paying attention to how we impact the planet and people. It's about fairness and thinking about the future. Experts will share their opinions, how they see us moving forward, and importantly, what support is needed from the government and international organizations to promote green growth in Vietnam," emphasized Mr. Nitin Kapoor.
