Proposed Speed Lane Division on Highways

Fri, 09 Aug 2024 09:44:00  |  Print  |  Email   Share:

According to Mr. Pham Minh Tuan from Đong Nai, the current speed lane division on the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet highway for two lanes is set at 60-120 km/h, and on the Phan Thiet-Nha Trang highway, it's set at 60-90 km/h for two lanes. The identical speed limits for both lanes lead to situations where vehicles traveling at 60 km/h drive parallel to each other, causing congestion for vehicles behind them and preventing the rear vehicles from maintaining the minimum required speed.

Mr. Tuan proposes the following lane divisions:

For the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet highway, the left lane should have a speed limit of 100-120 km/h, while the right lane should have a speed limit of 60-120 km/h.

For the Phan Thiet -Nha Trang highway, the left lane should have a speed limit of 80-90 km/h, while the right lane should have a speed limit of 60-90 km/h.

This proposed lane division would ensure traffic culture, where slower vehicles stay on the right, the left lane is reserved for overtaking, and congestion is avoided during holidays when traffic volume is high.

Regarding this matter, the Vietnam Road Administration, under the Ministry of Transport, responded as follows:

Clause 3, Article 13, "Use of Lanes," in the Road Traffic Law No. 23/2008/QH12 stipulates: "Vehicles participating in road traffic moving at lower speeds must keep to the right."

Therefore, to ensure traffic safety and avoid congestion during holidays when traffic volume is high, drivers are requested to adhere to the Road Traffic Law.
