Vietnamese and Chinese businesses are facing a great opportunity for extensive cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

On March 26, VCCI Secretary General Tran Thi Lan Anh had a working session with Mrs. Wu Juan, Deputy Secretary General of CABIS and Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) – Guangxi Chapter, to discuss the cooperation between the two sides in the future and provide additional information about some events planned to be held in Nanning, China.

Specifically, Mrs. Wu Juan suggested that VCCI coordinate to invite Vietnamese businesses to attend the 22nd China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS), which will take place from September 17-18 in Nanning, with a focus on AI.

Mrs. Wu Juan mentioned that the summit is an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to catch up with new AI technology trends from China and explore cooperation opportunities in this field.

Assessing AI as a promising area to promote cooperation between the business communities of both sides, the Deputy Secretary General of CABIS stated that Guangxi Province and Vietnam have reached consensus on AI cooperation and are in the process of building a connectivity platform.

Therefore, Chinese businesses are keen to understand the AI application needs in Vietnam in order to identify potential areas for collaboration. For this reason, Mrs. Wu Juan proposed that both sides cooperate to organize AI training sessions for the business communities of both countries, as well as the ASEAN community, to establish networks that will drive the development of AI in Vietnam and ASEAN.

Another key topic discussed during the meeting was support for the activities of the China-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) in 2025.

According to Mrs. Wu, the Council is an important dialogue mechanism, and VCCI is one of the key members. During the September summit, an annual meeting and a meeting linking the Presidents of ASEAN Chambers of Commerce are expected. Mrs. Wu hopes that VCCI will send business representatives and experts to participate in this conference, especially as the Young Entrepreneurs Committee and AI Committee are being established.

One area suggested by CABIS for collaboration is enhancing cooperation in resolving business disputes. China has established the ASEAN Arbitration Center and has good cooperation with the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC).

Mrs. Wu Juan proposed that both sides work together to build a cross-border dispute resolution mechanism to support businesses from both countries, and also suggested that VCCI assist in connecting the Nanning Lawyers Association with Vietnamese legal organizations to strengthen cooperation in this field.

According to the VCCI Deputy Secretary General, in recent years, under the direct leadership and guidance of the senior leaders of both Vietnam and China, especially following the visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to China and the visit of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to Vietnam, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China has continued to be strengthened and enhanced, contributing to the promotion of cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.

In particular, CCPIT Guangxi and CABIS have had a long-standing cooperative relationship with VCCI. Therefore, for the important events organized by CABIS this year, VCCI will plan and introduce suitable businesses to participate.

Providing additional information to CABIS, the VCCI Secretary General mentioned that VCCI has also planned a series of important events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations, which will coincide with the "China-Vietnam Cultural Exchange Year." Recently, VCCI coordinated with the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee to organize the "Meet up 2025" event, themed: "Lao Cai - Vietnam-ASEAN Trade and Connectivity Hub and Southwestern China."

The event attracted both domestic and international delegates, including government leaders, the Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, leaders from various ministries, VCCI leadership, provincial leadership, and representatives from several provincial departments; international organizations, promotion organizations; business associations, and foreign businesses in Vietnam, along with hundreds of Vietnamese and Chinese businesses.

At the event, investors and businesses from both sides met, exchanged views with government leaders, shared experiences, sought investment and business cooperation opportunities, and made proposals and recommendations to promote the socio-economic development of Lao Cai and the northern midland and mountainous regions. They also discussed ways to promote cooperation between Vietnamese businesses and international partners, especially businesses from ASEAN and China.

The VCCI Secretary General commented that AI and digital transformation are currently "hot" issues, and the business community is paying particular attention to this field, especially in trade and investment.

Therefore, Secretary General Tran Thi Lan Anh suggested that in the near future, Chinese businesses should increase investment, share information with Vietnamese businesses on new technology trends, explore new opportunities from AI, and assess AI's impact on the workforce in order to develop long-term strategies for human resource development in businesses in the new context.
