Each year, the Travel and Leisure site conducts a poll on the world’s best city based on a range of criteria including destinations, hotels, resorts, cuisine, people, culture, and more.

This year, the title of Best City went to the ancient town of Hoi An after earning 90.39 points, the highest among the top 15 best destinations in the world according to readers of the US travel site. Last year, Hoi An ranked eighth in the list.

According to Travel and Leisure, Hoi An is a charming city in the central region of Vietnam that has ancient roots, distinct architecture, a vibrant atmosphere, and arguably one of the best street food scenes on the planet.

The travel site also points out that Hoi An is home to a number of friendly people who are eager to share their city with guests.

Readers voted for Hoi An after being won over by the city’s shopping activities and renowned food scene.

Those who joined in the voting were particularly impressed by the fact that vehicles are not allowed inside the ancient town, which allowed visitors to walk the streets and markets with ease.

In addition, the city boasts a tranquil atmosphere and clean air as it is situated beside the Hoai river.
